16-17 November 2014 / Lord Risby’s visit to Algeria

Lord RisbyLord Risby, the British Prime Minister’s Envoy for Economic Partnership with Algeria, paid a working visit to Algeria on 16th and 17th November 2014.

The visit was within the framework of preparations for the UK-Algeria Trade & Investment Forum to be held in London on the 10th December 2014. Lord Risby was joined by two representatives of Developing Markets Associates (DMA), the event organiser.

Lord Risby met Mr. Youcef Yousfi, Minister for Energy, Mr. Abdessalem Bouchouareb, Minister for Industry and Mines, Mr. Abdelmalek Boudiaf, Minister for Health, Mrs. Nouria Benghebrit, Minister for National Education and Mr. Mohamed Djellab, Minister for Finance.

Both the Minister for Finance and Lord Risby have shared their satisfaction on the state of progress with the project on the Non-Double Taxation Agreement to be signed in the near future.

22 October 2014 /Meeting with British businessmen at the Algerian Embassy

UKABC final logoIn the framework of the visit of a delegation of British businessmen to Algeria led by the Algerian-British Business Council UK-ABC from the 30th November to 03rd December 2014, a meeting was held at the Embassy of Algeria in London in order to provide information to the British businessmen interested by this visit.

 Mr Amar ABBA, Ambassador of Algeria to the United Kingdom, and Lord Risby, the British Prime Minister’s Envoy for Economic Partnership with Algeria, took part in this meeting to highlight the significant development registered between the two countries in terms of cooperation, and to put an emphasis on the opportunities Algeria has to offer, in order to further strengthen this cooperation.

12-15th October 2014 / Visit of British businessmen to Algeria


The Middle East Association (MEA) led a mission of British businessmen to Algeria in order to explore investment and trade opportunities in the country.

15th October 2014 / Visit of Mr Abdelkader Messahel to London

messahel-algerieThe Minister Delegate for Maghreb and African Affairs, Mr Abdelkader Messahel, paid a working visit to London on 15th October 2014.

Mr Messahel presided the meeting of the UK-Algeria Strategic Security Partnership, together with Sir Kim Darroch, the National Security Advisor.

The meeting gave both parties the opportunity to review the development of the situation in the Maghreb, Sahel and the Middle-East regions and also to discuss issues of the international cooperation on the counter-terrorism and violent extremism.

14-16 June 2014/ Visit of Lord Mayor of the City of London to Algiers

WoolfAlderman Fiona Woolf, the Lord Mayor of the City of London, visited Algiers from 14 to 16 June 2014. She was accompanied by Lord Risby, the Prime Minister’s Envoy for Economic Partnership with Algeria, and a delegation of British companies.

The aim of her visit was to reinforce the relationship between the British trade and financial community and its Algerian counterpart and explore new opportunities to work together and develop a sustainable and profitable financial services industry.

During her stay, Alderman Fiona Woolf met Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal and other ministers, including those of Finance, National Education and Health.
