08th October 2015/ The Algerian-British business Council and the FCE organise a conference in London on the economic partnership

A conference on "the partnership with Algeria", organised by the Algerian-British Business  Counsil (ABBC) in collaboration with the “Forum  des Chefs d’entreprises” (Forum of Heads of enterprises-FCE), took place, on  October 8, 2015 in London.

Around forty Algerian business leaders from the private sector, led by the President of the FCE, M. Ali Haddad, took part in this meeting, which set a goal to bring together these economic operators with their British counterpart. Lord Risby, Representative of the British Prime Minister David Cameron, and M. Andrew Noble, the British Ambassador to Algeria were among the guests.

Several activities highlighted the stay of the Algerian delegation, including  business to business contacts with British operators, a visit to the London Stock Exchange (LSE) where prospects for cooperation with both the FCE  and the Stock Exchange of Algiers have  been identified and a meeting with the Lord Mayor of the City, recently elected.

23rd March 2015 / The Food and Drink Event in London.

H.E. the Ambassador, Amar ABBA, made, on Monday 23rd March 2015, a visit to the Algerian stand at the International Food & Drink Event (Excel London).

The Algerian stand was hired by SAFEX enabling many Algerian exhibitors to introduce their products, namely:


  •        Groupe Bajou (dates);
  •        Haddoud enterprise (dates company);
  •        Acid Olmed AEK (olives and olive oil);
  •        Sig-Agro (fruit and vegetable canning, who also exhibited table olives);
  •        Mitidja SIM for industrial semolina (pasta products, couscous, semolina and flour);
  •        Setifis Bottling Company (juices and non-alcoholic beverages).

Other exhibitors (two or three) were booked in this same stand, however they could not make it due to visa issues/lack of visas.


18-19 February 2015/ Visit of the British Foreign Secretary to Algeria

 

Hammond AlgiersThe British Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, Mr Philip Hammond, paid a two-day visit to Algeria on 18-19 February 2015.

During this visit, Mr Hammond met the President of the Republic, Mr Abdelaziz Bouteflika, the Prime Minister, Mr Abdelmalek Sellal and Mr. Ramtane Lamamra, Minister for Foreign Affairs.

The meetings were the occasion for both parties to assess the progress made in recent years towards the building of a strong and enduring partnership between the two countries.

The discussions were focused on a number of international and regional issues of common interest, among them Mali, Libya, Syria, Iraq and on international cooperation to fight against terrorism. On Libya, the two delegations stressed the importance of an inclusive dialogue between all parties for a peaceful solution to the conflict.

Bilateral economic cooperation between the two countries was among the main topics examined during the visit especially after the successful UK-Algeria Trade and Investment Forum which took place on December 10th.

A convention to avoid double taxation was signed by Mr. Philip Hammond and Mr. Ramtane Lamamra during the visit which will increase the attractiveness of the Algerian market.

11 December 2014 / Visit of Prime Minister, Mr Abdelmalek Sellal to London

 

Sellal LondonPrime Minister Mr Abdelmalek Sellal paid a working visit to London on 11th December 2014.

This visit took place after the UK-Algeria Trade and Investment Forum organised in London on 10th December 2014 in London to explore new business opportunities and reinforce further the economic partnership between the two countries.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Mr Abdelmalek Sellal met his British counterpart, Mr David Cameron, at 10 Downing Street.

During the meeting, several political issues related to Libya, Mali, Iraq, Syria were examined by the two leaders.

On the Libyan conflict they agreed on the necessity to promote a peaceful solution through an inclusive dialogue between all the parties rejecting terrorism.

They also agreed on the need to increase the international cooperation to counter terrorism.

This meeting was also an excellent opportunity to take stock of the very positive prospects in bilateral economic cooperation.

 

10 December 2014 / UK-Algeria Trade and Investment Forum

Forum d cembre 2014 A UK-Algeria Forum on Trade and Investment was held on 10th December 2014 in London focussing on business opportunities in Algeria.

The Forum was officially opened by Mr Phillip Hammond, Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, and Mr Abdeslam Bouchouareb, Minister for Industry and Mines, with the presence of Mr Amara Benyounes, Trade Minister, and Lord Risby, the British Prime Minister’s Envoy for Economic Partnership with Algeria.

Organised by Development Market Associates (DMA), in collaboration with the Algerian Embassy in London, the British Embassy in Algiers and the UKTI, the Forum was a great success owing to the exceptional participation of companies of both countries, represented by their CEOs from public and private sectors totalling 500 companies, and to the rich presentations and debates.

On this occasion a clear message was delivered by the Algerian officials “Algeria is a country open to businesses”.

Two agreements were signed during the Forum, both with the public pharmaceutical group SAIDAL, the first with the international group CLINICA to support the Cancer plan in Algeria, and the second was signed with AstraZeneca, company already operating in Algeria.
