16 May 2018: celebration of the International Day of Living Together in Peace

vivre ensembleThe United Nations General Assembly celebrated on Wednesday the 16th of May, for the first time, the International Day of Living Together in Peace.

On the 8th of December 2017, the United Nations General Assembly adopted, at the initiative of Algeria and the International Association of Sufi Alawiya (AISA), a resolution proclaiming May 16 as the International Day of “Living Together in Peace.”

In a message on the occasion of the celebration, President Abdelaziz Bouteflika said that “the proclamation of this day is recognition of Algeria’s role in promoting peace”.

22nd January 2018: The Minister of Education takes part in WEF in London

BenghabritThe Minister of Education Nouria Benghabrit took part on the 22nd and the 23rd January in London, in the World Education Forum, which bring together worldwide education ministers and senior advisers to examine the challenges of the sector and debate future education policy.

The minister, who took part in various session and activities of this meeting, outlined in her speech, the approach endorsed by the ministry to improve education quality and prepare the Algerian school to meet the 21st century challenges.

During her stay in London, Mrs Benghabrit had a meeting with the British Minister of State for North Africa and the Middle East, Alistair Burt.  Both parties expressed their satisfaction with the level of cooperation between Algiers and London.


Manchester terror attack

Following the terror attack at Manchester Arena yesterday, the Algerian Embassy expresses its solidarity with the victims’ families, the people and the government of UK.

For the time being, we do not deplore any victim among the Algerian community living in Manchester.

An emergency helpline for family and friends has been set up by the British authorities. Anyone concerned about loved ones can call 0161 856 9400.

15 February 2017/Lecture on Emir Abdelkader

The importance of Emir Abdelkader El-Djazaïri’s approach for the current world, “which is marked by conflicts and tensions between religions” was affirmed at the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies by  M. Idriss Jazairy, Executive Director of the Geneva Centre for the Advancement of Human Rights and Global Dialogue.

The lecture, attended by Academics, teachers, researchers and students as well as the Algerian ambassador to the U.K Amar Abba, highlighted the Emir’s values “of respect, tolerance and humanism, advocated in times of war and peace.”

 


People’s National Assembly elections

The Embassy of Algeria in London is pleased to inform the Algerian nationals in the United Kingdom and Ireland that the elections for the People’s National Assembly will take place from 29th April to 4th May 2017.

To this effect, the Algerian consulate is updating the electoral list, from 8th to 22nd February 2017.
