In collaboration with the Arab-British Chamber of Commerce of London (ABCC), the Embassy held a virtual Round Table on business and investment opportunities in Algeria, on the 11thof November 2020. Among the participants at this event were: Lord Richard Risby, Personal Envoy of the Prime Minister for Economic Partnership with Algeria, the Rt Hon Baroness Symons of Vernham Dean, Chairman of the ABCC, Mr. Bandar Reda, Secretary General and CEO of the ABCC, Lady Olga Maitland, Chairman of the Algerian British Business Council, Mr. James Fielder, CEO of HSBC Algeria Bank and Mr. Yassine Bouhara, Vice President of the Algerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in France (CACI).

137 businessmen and representatives of Algerian and British companies participated in this event. 

 

On this occasion, Ambassador Abderrhamane Benguerrah discussed the political and economic reforms put forward by the Algerian Government to reinforce the rule of law and good governance and to improve the business climate in the country. He, in particular, highlighted the measures introduced to boost the sectors of the hydrocarbons, mining, finance and digitalisation.  

 

In their comments, the participants praised the important changes occurring in the Algerian economy and considered that they provide real business opportunities for British firms.

Webinar meeting 15 octobre 2020

The Embassy held a virtual Round Table on business and investment opportunities in Algeria, on the 15th of October 2020. It was organised in collaboration with the Algerian-British Business Council (ABBC) and with the participation of Lord Richard Risby, Personal Envoy of the Prime Minister for Economic Partnership with Algeria, Mr. James Feilder, CEO of HSBC Algeria Bank and Mr. Mathieu Beaucourt, Managing Director of KPMG Algeria.

More than 110 businessmen and representatives of Algerian and British economic companies participated in this event. 

In his presentation, Ambassador Benguerrah addressed the state of the economy in Algeria and the numerous business opportunities made possible by the multiple reforms and measures introduced by the Algerian Government.  He and participants discussed, in particular, the new laws on Investment, Hydrocarbons and Money and Credit and expressed their optimism on their positive effects on the business climate in Algeria and in attracting British and other foreign investments. 

Furthermore, the participants discussed the decisions taken by the Government to promote the start-ups, the digitization of the national economy, the energy transition and the development of renewable energies, as well as the revival of the mining industry. 

In conclusion, the participants welcomed the new business atmosphere in Algeria and the resolve of the government to reform the economy with the adoption of concrete measures, many of which have already been implemented.

Webinar DMA

A videoconference under the title: “Algeria and the UK: Post-COVID19 Trade and Investment” was organised on 30thSeptember 2020 by the Embassy of Algeria in London, Developing Markets Associates (DMA) and the Algerian British Business Council (ABBC).

Amongst the participants were:

-       Mr Ferhat Ait Ali Braham, Minister of Industry, 

-       Lord Grimstone of Boscobel, Minister for Investment at the Department for International Trade, 

-       Lord Risby, British Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to Algeria,

-       Abderrahmane Benguerrah, Algerian Ambassador to the United Kingdom,

-       Barry Lowen, British Ambassador to Algeria

-       Representatives of Algerian ministries of Agriculture and Rural Development, Commerce, pharmaceutical industries, micro-enterprises and ANDI (National Agency of Investment Development), Sonelgaz, and the President of the Algerian Confederation of Citizen Employers (CAPC). 

In his address, Minister Ait Ali Braham outlined the Algerian Government's new vision for economic development which encourages strategic partnerships between the firms of the two countries, particularly in the industrial and technological fields.

Minister Grimstone spoke of British investments in Algeria and the post-Brexit bilateral economic relations, highlighting the expertise and the long experience of British firms and institutions, notably in digital economy, renovation, education and finance. He praised the efforts made by the Algerian government to encourage foreign investment, particularly in the sectors of agriculture, technology, renewable energies and energy transition.

Lord Risby highlighted the economic potential of Algeria, calling on the British companies to further contribute to the development of economic relations between the two countries. He encouraged the sharing of British expertise with Algeria and welcomed the change in Algeria which he described as positive.

The representatives of the Algerian ministerial departments highlighted the Government’s policies to promote partnerships and investment opportunities in the country.  

At the end of the conference, H.E Mr. Abderrahmane Benguerrah, Algerian Ambassador to the United Kingdom and H.E Mr. Barry Lowen, British Ambassador to Algeria, highlighted the new legal framework adopted by the Algerian government to promote the business climate in the country and reaffirmed the commitment of the two governments to further diversify and reinforce the bilateral relations in all economic sectors of common interest.
