1 November 1954 1

The Message of the President of the Republic on the occasion of the 66th Anniversary of the 1st November Revolution:

In the name of Allah, the merciful and clement, May the peace and blessings of Allah be on our master Muhammad.

  Ladies and Gentlemen,

The celebration of the anniversary of our glorious National Liberation War in Algeria where the smallest plot had been covered by the blood of one million and a half martyrs and later the Moudjahidine (war veterans) who sacrificed their lives during the consecutive popular uprisings, the children of our valorous people, is the best testimony to the deeds and sacrifices made by our people to regain their sovereignty.

This brave people who fought under the leadership of Emir Abdelkader, Ahmed Bey, Bouamama, Lala Fatma N'soumer, Ouled Sid Chikh, Cheikh Amoud and others, managed to counter all the schemes aiming at erasing their identity and altering their foundations, thanks to their resistance and attachment to their secular national heritage in order to tirelessly defend their existence as a Nation rooted in this land and a people who deserve pride, glory and greatness.

In line with its principles and ideals, the Revolution of 1st November 1954 changed the history of mankind forever given its impact on the emancipation of weakened peoples who rebelled against colonialism. The revolution outbreak in Algeria did spread to other nations where people eventually espoused the principles of freedom and emancipation.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

As we commemorate the 66th Anniversary of the outbreak of the glorious Liberation War and as we remember, gratefully and faithfully, in this great and sacred pause, the sacrifices and historic events of the Algerian people who at a pivotal time chose and headed down the path of liberation and emancipation.

On this occasion, we bow and pay tribute, with respect and piety to the memory of the chouhada (the Martyrs) and with God’s will, Algeria is definitely on the path of a promising future with work and national commitment fuelled with our noble values and November principles with our resolve to successfully address the current social and economic challenges.

The brave Algerian people, who will remain faithful to the vow made to our valiant martyrs, will live up to their great sacrifices providing more efforts with abnegation and selflessness.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

On this occasion, I would like to address the youth and ask them again to remain attached to our glorious History and faithful to the martyrs legacy while being resolved to meet the challenges of the present through work and innovation and turn themselves towards the future armed with knowledge and be responsive to a merciless era towards the naysayers.

I seize this opportunity to greet and express my consideration to the National People's Army (ANP), worthy heir to the National Liberation Army (ALN) as well as to all the security forces for their tireless efforts deployed across the country to protect borders and preserve security and tranquillity.

Today Algeria is engaged in the battle for change which will constitute a bridge to the new Algeria, thanks to the combined efforts of all Algerians and the national goodwill to materialize the hopes of the martyrs and build a strong Algeria with young people who make the genuine wealth of the Nation, and on whom we rely to pursue this battle and move forward towards the fulfilment of the aspirations of the blessed authentic Hirak.

By their glorious past, their great sacrifices and firm determination, the Algerian people will mark again History on Sunday 1st November through the achievement of the expected change through the referendum on the constitutional amendment for the beginning of a new era and which represents the hopes of the Nation and the dreams of our people for a strong, modern and democratic country, a sovereign state, the future generations will be proud not only of its history but also of the genius of these men, generations who will get the inheritance of the martyrs and preserve it with pride and glory.

 Ladies and Gentlemen,

On this occasion, I would like to pay tribute with respect and piety to the memory of the martyrs and express my gratitude to the brave Moudjahidine amongst us, honouring their efforts and sacrifices for the freedom and independence of Algeria. I pray Allah Almighty to grant them health and a long life and for His mercy to the martyrs and that he welcome them to his vast paradise among the righteous.

Long live a free and sovereign Algeria, Glory to our martyrs”.
